The impact of traumatic stress is not limited to students and can also affect families, school staff and community. Recently, there has been an even greater emphasis in public schools to better support resiliency in students, to increase learning. This is at the heart of the Trauma-Informed School Pilot project and a few ways in which we wish to positively impact students.
The Pilot is a system's level approach to enhancing the educational environment and overall practices of staff. Out goals are to create an awareness of trauma-informed concepts among staff and students and ultimately develop new, and implement existing, strategies for helping student stay in school and succeed. The project also hopes to engage students, families and community in this process and generate greater connectivity between school-based and outside resources to support students.
